International Photography Awards - Athens, Greece
House of Lucie, Athens
Recently, I travelled to Athens, Greece, for the 2024 International Photography Awards. It was three days of photo talks, presentations, portfolio reviews, and the awards ceremony. Heaven for a photographer. :)
Taking in the photo collection and the best in show exhibit a the House of Lucie, Athens
The events were held at the House of Lucie, where a permanent collection of photography is on display. An exhibition of the best in show from this year’s competition kicked things off and gave this year’s winners from around the world a chance to meet and discuss photography.
Portfolio reviews and getting project feedback
As one of this year’s winners, a perk was three one-on-one reviews/consultations with photography curators and experts. I was also able to present the project to a group of my peers and photography experts in attendance.
It was all incredibly beneficial and rewarding to receive this kind of feedback, as being a photographer is very insular. Most of the time you have to rely on yourself and your own judgement. It can be difficult to be objective about your work when you are emotionally attached. You need others to see your work from the outside to help guide and make recommendations
Presenting my project at the House of Lucie, Athens
Getting this kind of feedback from such experts and peers is priceless and affirming. Some great opportunities have arisen as a result, as these talks and presentations resulted in offers of presenting and exhibiting the work in different locations in Europe.
The International Photography Awards ceremony
The three days of events were capped off with the formal awards ceremony and celebrations. It was invigorating to see so many incredible photographers work and to speak with so many inspiring people doing great things. It helped fill me up and give me the extra push I needed to complete my project.
