Community Eviction
The people of Tantarcalla, Peru, are facing eviction from their community high in the Andes Mountains, where they have lived since before the arrival of the Spanish in the 1500s. The approximately 1000 people rely on subsistence farming for their survival which they have done for centuries. Now, an adjacent landowner claims that he is the legal owner of the land and wants them evicted for his purposes. The area is rich in minerals that mining companies are vying to access and others look to take advantage of. The result is that people face the reality of being evicted from the only homes they have ever known.
The community lacks the monetary resources and knowledge of the legal system to fight this injustice. I am raising funds to assist the community with legal fees and associated costs. Please consider donating to help the people of Tantarcalla as every bit helps. Thank you!
